In his The Analysis of Beauty<\/h3>\n

(1753), William Hogarth identifies, in contradistinction to \u201cstraight lines\u201d and \u201ccurved lines,\u201d a \u201cserpentine line\u201d witch he names the \u201cline<\/h3>\n

of beauty.\u201d The line is verbally articulated\u00a0 <\/span>also as a \u201cwaving line,\u201d \u201cwinding line,\u201d and \u201cthe line of grace\u201d. According to the theory,<\/h3>\n

S-shaped curved lines indicate liveliness and activity as opposed to straight lines, parallel lines or right-angled intersecting lines, which signify stillness, death or inanimate objects.<\/h3>\n

When the Museum Singer-Laren commissioned us to design an outdoor bench to celebrate the new extension, we went back to that old text.\u00a0 <\/span>The town of Laren, in North Holland, has been already known for a lively artist community in which experimenting, and broad thinking are essential. It felt appropriate<\/h3>\n

to use a continuous line, then 3D printed in concrete to represent a sketching line. The line of beauty it\u2019s an homage to the artistic frenzy of the area and to the unique museum.<\/h3>\n
