SOFT PEBBLES – DE AUGUST

Invited by Dutch Housing Corporation Ymere and Team V Architecture, Kiki was challenged to design the artworks that would bring together building and garden.

She designed stoneware seaters, lighting and a gigantic pergola for the communal garden to encourage inhabitants to take a break, get together for a chat and feel welcome and safe.

The project proofs how design can be an added value in societal systems. This social housing is designed and made with attention to details, materials, tactility, in a modern way. It connects people. Inhabitants feel proud and grateful to be part of this and being the lucky ones to live here!

Tracymetz wrote a piece for ‘De Architect’ published 15 Jan 2025. A quote from her last passage of the article:

‘The pièce de resistance are the lamps and the seatings in the front garden. In consultation with Ymere, Team V invited Eindhoven artist Kiki van Eijk to make seating, furniture and lamps. They are part of her long-running Soft series, in which objects such as clocks are made of earthenware with a soft-looking surface.

The ‘poufs’ in the garden are made of red-brown ceramic, each individually handmade. Wall lamps hang on the facade and there are pendant lamps on the pergola that Van Eijk also designed. As if to say: come in, sit down, you are at home here, in a building that says: be welcome.’
