This wall art textile piece is developed and crafted in both Kiki’s atelier, as well as the Lab of the Dutch Textile Museum. Kiki has created textile relief elements in her own atelier by hand. These textile elements are very experimental, going away from traditional techniques and honoring the beauty of the “sketch”. They are meticulously made with an incredible eye for detail and color. The hand tufted parts are developed at the Textile lab. The wool is all custom dyed for this piece. Tufting in a non-traditional way is giving a whole new look on this craft. By applying the textile reliefs into the tuft work and playfully combing the two worlds we are looking at a 21st century collage piece.
Using a big variety of textiles from her personal archive of more than 20 years work, she creates a unique patchwork. Each element is meticulously stitched and colors are very precisely chosen.
