Henri Martin & Henri Le Sidaner at Singer Laren, 22 January – 11 May 2025

To give the ‘Henri Martin & Henri Le Sidaner’ exhibition a contemporary and compelling form, Singer Laren collaborated with Kiki& Joost. Kiki & Joost were inspired by the paintings. Their intuitive approach forms the basis for the exhibition design. The paintings exude a sense of intimacy and warmth. The everyday and domestic are central, the human presence is always present. The work speaks of longing: for better times, for sunshine, for a paradise of their own. ‘We both felt we wanted to be there. Where the painter’s easel stood, where the sun rose, where the light reflected in the fountain…..’

To reinforce these themes, each room is designed to draw visitors even deeper into the world of paintings. Each room has a three-dimensional object referring to the theme of the room. By arranging the different rooms with a free ‘touch’, as reflected in the paintings, Kiki and Joost want to leave room for imagination. For instance, paper corn stalks reflect the sun-drenched fields, while paint and paper strips on the walls enhance the light and colors of the paintings while revealing the human touch and the handmade. Also, a fountain of strips of purple, blue and white paper fills one of the rooms where the flowing shapes extend to all corners, creating a dynamic whole. For a moment, you imagine yourself in the central square of a picturesque French village. In another room, portraits of Martin and Le Sidaner’s families hang at different heights. This creates interaction and connection. Here, the visitor becomes an active part of the art, sometimes by changing position or using the stairs. In the last room, you look out over the Mediterranean sea.

Henri Martin & Henri Le Sidaner is an exhibition, created by Yann Farinaux-Le Sidaner, in collaboration with Singer Laren, museum Palais Lumière in  Évian-les-Bains en museum Baron Martin in Gray.
